Origins of Salon Azur
Established in the early twentieth century as an extension of the Hôtel de Paris's most distinguished patronage, Salon Azur occupies a discreet wing of the upper floors. Its name derives from the Mediterranean hue that washes the room at dusk — a particular quality of light that painters and poets have long associated with this coastline.
Membership is by invitation and renewal. The circle includes long-stay guests, cultural patrons, and individuals connected to the principality's institutions. Salon Azur is not a gaming club — it is a salon in the French sense: a room for conversation, correspondence, and unhurried hospitality.
The Room Itself
Panelled in pale oak with accents of navy and scarlet, the salon measures modestly by hotel standards but compensates with detail. A fireplace of Carrara marble anchors one wall; floor-to-ceiling windows on the other frame the harbour. Bookshelves hold volumes on Riviera history, art catalogues, and period journals.
A dedicated host attends to members throughout the day — arranging private dining, securing opera tickets, and coordinating excursions along the coast. The service ethic mirrors the hotel's public standards but operates at a more personal scale.

The Evening Hour
Each evening between seven and nine, the salon hosts an informal gathering known simply as l'heure bleue. Members arrive individually or in pairs, order from a concise menu of Champagne, digestifs, and canapés, and converse without agenda. No speeches, no presentations — only the pleasure of company in a beautiful room.
Seasonal Calendars
During the opera season, Salon Azur coordinates pre-performance dinners for members attending the same programme. In summer, the circle organises private viewings of the Japanese Garden and guided walks through the old town. These events are documented in a leather-bound register kept in the salon — a continuous record since 1923.
